Kadarka
This unique and elegant, fruit-driven red wine is made from the special and challenging Hungarian grape Kadarka. As the wine farmer saying goes: “If the Kadarka turns out well, all wines will be good.” 2017 turned out particularly well. The grapes ripened early and were harvested with exceptional fruit concentration.

100% Kadarka
Production

Our Kadarka is made at a family wine estate with long traditions of winemaking in the scenic, award-winning red-wine district Villány in the south of Hungary. Their objective as Polgár himself explains is “to take care of the natural heritage, preserve and pass it on to our grandchildren.” The vineyard is as a rule producing wine in a manner as good as organic, solely using natural methods.
Food Paring

Enjoy with lamb, fish soup, stew dishes, and poultry with bacon (a great match to duck, and caesar salad with bacon) at 12-16°C
Curiosa

The Kadarka plays an important part of the classical Hungarian cuvée Egri Bikaver (Bull’s blood). It was supposedly the secret ingredient in the wine that fortified the defenders of Eger (Hungary) in 1552. “If the Kadarka turns out well, all wines will be good. So goes the saying of the wine farmers in Villány about the special, but difficult red grape that almost disappeared during the communist years, when patience, care and craftsmanship was close to forbidden. The communist regime is now gone, but the Kadarka is still there, together with the expertise of the wine farmers that never forgot how to take care of it.
Storaging

Drink now and until 2023
Character

Light red wine with low tannins, medium bodied, well balanced.
Aroma and taste
The ageing in oak barrels contributes to the full flavour and bouquet. The taste is slightly fruity with delicate acids and kind tannins. Let it linger in your mouth and you will feel the paprika, the ripe cherries, the red berries, and the vanilla.
